Living in a busy area can be really tiresome since it seems that we don’t have time to take a pause. Arjen Reas Architecten offered a solution to this problem through the project of villa-like-home Out of the Box.
Villa Out of the Box sits on the busy street of the edge of Zoetermeer, around Bentwood Park. As for the demand of its inhabitants who need more space to take a breather from their routines, the designer constructed the villa to close off from the outside world yet open itself up to the beautiful and refreshing its private garden.
Mindful Design
Respecting the owner’s dreams, the house was designed in a way of an en rustic and robust building yet still maintaining the light and spacious vibes.
From the outside, everybody will notice the highlight of the house laying on the black timber old barn with a recessed thatch roof surrounded by sleek white boxes. The designer tries to strongly contrast the look of the antique barn with the modern design from the sleek white boxes.
With the combination of both, the house shows off the feeling of seclusion. Even so, the warm and cozy interior and floor plan offer some comfortable healing of the stressful day.
The white box constructions appear to be extensions of the kitchen-dinner room, the study, and the garage. These boxes are constructed in some specific ways forming unique characteristic spaces on the outside. It makes no limitation for enjoying the garden in a year around.
Grateful natural light and spaciousness
Regarding the owner who wants to have a light and spacious house, the designer placed a large opening in the wooden façade. This way, every space in the house may be drawn in a full of natural light. The natural light from the large opening placed at the edge of the living room brings the sense of warmth and intimacy.
Even so, the ornament and the floor plan emphasize the diverse character. The kitchen diner and the living room are interconnected seamlessly which surprisingly outgrow the spacious feelings
This well-built house is the one suited to the demand of the owner. As the old barn surrounded by white boxes that grant the owners’ sense of privacy and intimacy, the natural light from the large openings supports the sense of spaciousness with seamlessly interconnected rooms to uphold not only the demand of the owner but also their needs. Then, they may relax from their routine once they get to the house by enjoying the garden.
